We have a clear purpose: to make nuclear waste permanently safe, sooner. It is the right thing to do for current and future generations.

Our goal is to ensure that waste is managed innovatively and sustainably, to protect people and the environment and secure a safer future for us all. We have reversed the previous trend of disposing of 95% of nuclear waste, now sending only 2% for disposal, with 98% being recycled or reused.

Mission Readiness
The UK has been producing and managing radioactive waste for many decades and will continue to do so for many more. New nuclear plants are viewed by UK Government as essential to the green energy mix and a secure energy supply for all. And so the ability to safely manage nuclear waste from generation to final resting place is essential for the UK.
Nuclear Waste Services was formed in 2022, and our organisation proudly brings together the UK’s leading nuclear waste management capabilities, to protect people and the environment by managing waste effectively and seizing the opportunities this presents to secure a sustainable future for domestic clean energy security.
And our work affects everyone – the nuclear sector and its workers, supply chain partners, transporters, industrial users of radioactivity, hospitals, local communities, and the public at home and abroad.
Our activities provide the endpoint in the nuclear journey and are critical to the NDA’s mission, which represents one of the world’s largest environmental programmes.
